Volunteer of the Month: Clementine Lee
August 6, 2026

Foodwise relies on volunteers and interns to help with education programs and other activities that help fulfill our mission to grow thriving communities through the power and joy of local food. Learn more about internships here and volunteer opportunities here.
Thank you to Clementine Lee, who began volunteering with Foodwise after moving to San Francisco to meet new people and learn about the local food system. Since then, she’s become a friendly face at both the Info Booth and Veggie Valet, supporting regular shoppers and tourists alike with their questions about the farmers market.
“Clementine is such a delight to work with. She always brings such a positive attitude to the market and is very engaging with customers and vendors. Whether she is supporting the Info Booth or Veggie Valet, she is always inviting and a pleasure to have around,” says Operations Coordinator Deven Okry.
Meet Clementine.
Where does your interest in food come from?
I took a History of Food course at Boston University, where I was first introduced to food injustice and the repercussions of industrial agriculture. It unlocked a passion of mine to help mitigate food insecurity and make these systems more sustainable while putting money back into farmers’ pockets.
What do you do when you aren’t volunteering or interning for Foodwise?
I love to run with friends, find new artists at galleries and museums, try different cuisines across San Francisco’s amazing restaurants, and scout old furniture at thrift stores and vintage markets.
Why are you choosing to volunteer or intern with us at this time?
The people who run Foodwise are incredibly kind and thoughtful in making the market as safe and accessible as possible. It is a delight to start my weekends off with such inspiring people in addition to meeting producers, chefs, and local community members who love farmers markets as much as I do.
What has been most rewarding about your experience with Foodwise?
I was amazed to learn the ripple effect Foodwise has on San Francisco. The amount of chefs from across the city buying their ingredients from Foodwise is tremendous. It’s an incredibly robust ecosystem that is exciting to witness.
What does Foodwise mean to you?
Foodwise is a safe place for everyone to enjoy fresh produce. It’s been a treasured tradition to start my weekends with the team, and I am grateful to work with folks dedicated to increasing the accessibility of local produce.
Any favorite farmers market foods or home meal prep tips you want to share?
I personally love the Pink Lady apples from Devoto Orchards when they are in season! They are beautiful and perfectly tart for a homemade galette or pie.
