Wild Rice (Manoomin) with Berries

This dish includes indigenous ingredients from the Great Lakes region. Serve as a light and nutritious side dish.
INGREDIENTS
2 cups cooked wild rice, cooled
1 ½ cups mixed berries such as strawberries, blueberries, or mulberries, washed
¼ cup maple syrup
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped toasted nuts (preferably hazelnuts or pecans)
PREPARATION
- If berries are large, cut them into small pieces so they are all about the size of a blueberry.
- Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, being careful not to smash any of the more delicate berries.
- Serve chilled and top with toasted nuts.
