Serves 3

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon neutral cooking oil
1 block of extra firm tofu
½ teaspoon of white pepper
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, divided
½ cup orange juice
Zest of 1 large orange
½ teaspoon ginger, grated
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons of soy sauce
2 ½ tablespoons of sugar
½ teaspoon of chili flakes
Sesame oil, for drizzling

PREPARATION

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of oil on a baking sheet.
  2. Tear tofu into bite-sized pieces to create texture. Toss in mixture of white pepper, garlic powder, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Spread evenly on prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown.
  3. While tofu is baking, make the sauce. Combine remaining 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with orange juice and zest, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sugar and chili flakes. In small saucepan over medium heat, simmer sauce until thickened, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Toss tofu in the sauce and serve over rice. Drizzle with sesame oil.
