About
Chertai and Zee both come from four generations of farmers, so when they moved to California from Laos in the 1980s, they decided to begin their own farm with the knowledge and skills that were passed down to them. They began farming in the Central Valley, joining thousands of other Hmong immigrants. In order to serve the demand of their diverse customer-base in San Francisco, Chertai and Zee grow a wide range of specialty vegetables, such as the Brazilian eggplant, bitter melon, yu choy, and okra. They have been selling at Alemany Farmers Market since they started their farm in 1989, and have decades-long relationships with customers and families who have been coming to the market each week in search of C&Z’s culturally specific produce.
