Savory

Closely related to rosemary and thyme, there are about 30 species of herbs known as savories, of which summer savory and winter savory are the most common. Both summer and winter savory add a bold, peppery flavor to a variety of poultry, pork, and meat dishes. While many people are familiar with savory, few know that Yerba Buena (which literally translates to ?good herb?) was the original name for San Francisco, referring to a variety of savory that grows in the thick, moist soil that trails along the Pacific coast.
