Mario Ishii Hernandez, Frog Hollow Farm

Saturday, June 15, 2024, 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

Stop by the Foodwise Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

To help you savor the end of spring and the beginning of summer, Chef Mario Hernandez’s demo will feature ingredients from three of your favorite Ferry Plaza Farmers Market vendors—Frog Hollow Farm, Tomales Farmstead Creamery, and The Acme Bread Company. On four Saturdays in June (June 8, 15, 22, 29), if you visit and support all three of their Ferry Plaza stands (minimum $10 each), you will be entered into a raffle to win a bountiful Frog Hollow gift basket full of goodies and swag from each vendor. Find their stands in the back plaza on Saturdays.

Mario Hernandez has been with Frog Hollow Farm for the last seven seasons. He started his cooking journey late in his working career. He volunteered to work at Oakland’s famed Oliveto Restaurant every weekend under the mentorship of then Sous Chef Paul Canales (now the owner of Duende restaurant in Downtown Oakland). From there, his interest in Italian food took him to the Tuscany region of Italy, staging several restaurants and cooking schools. After returning to the States, he and a few friends opened up a small café in the East Village of NYC called Abraco Espresso. After two years of life in NYC, he returned to California and started his position as Culinary Coordinator at Frog Hollow Farm. Find Frog Hollow Farm at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on Saturdays.

All demos take place in the Foodwise Classroom (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
