Stop by the Foodwise Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.
Florencia Ramirez is the author of The Kitchen Activist: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Planet Smart Kitchen and Eat Less Water: The Solution to Water Shortages is in the Kitchen. A storyteller at heart and researcher by training, she holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago. Through writing, research, and lived experience, she explores how the everyday choices we make in our kitchens can become acts of environmental and social change. Her work has been featured on NPR, PBS, KTLA, CBS, KCRW’s Good Food, and in the Los Angeles Times. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Pesticide Free Soil Project and the recipient of the Environmental Hero Award and the Gift of Freedom Award in Creative Nonfiction. Married and the mother of three Kitchen Activists, she splits her time between Oxnard, California, and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
All demos take place in the Foodwise Classroom (green tent in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
