Volunteer of the Month: Tinna Ho

January 26, 2018

CUESA’s Volunteer of the Month program recognizes the dedication and work of some of our most active volunteers. CUESA relies on volunteers to help with education programs, special events, public outreach, and other activities that help fulfill our mission to cultivate a sustainable food system. Learn more about volunteering and sign up here. We’ll be hosting new volunteer orientations on March 25 (Oakland) and May 5 (SF).

Bay Area native Tinna Ho is one of the friendly faces you may see in the morning at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Since 2015, she’s lent a hand at our seasonal cocktail events, but more often than not, she’s been a regular at the CUESA Info Booth assisting market shoppers, sellers, chefs, and visitors in a deft and low-key way. “I really love CUESA’s mission—its focus on sustainability, community and education,” says Tinna. “I’m constantly learning new things at the Info Booth.”

“No matter how wild Saturday mornings get, Tinna always radiates a sense of stability and calm,” says Katy Burnett, CUESA’s Market Manager. “I appreciate how she can smooth over tricky moments with quiet humor, and I always forget she’s a math whiz until she does something impressive entirely in her head. I’m grateful for all she has brought to the Info Booth.” Meet Tinna.

CUESA: Where does your interest in food come from?

Tinna: I consider myself very lucky to have grown up in the Bay Area, eating dishes made of local, fresh ingredients prepared by my family every day. I love to eat, and I love to learn. And it all probably started with those delicious meals.

CUESA: What do you do when you aren’t volunteering for CUESA?

Tinna: During the week, I am a number cruncher for a social enterprise company in the city—a mix of technology and nonprofit. I enjoy volunteering all over the city, spending time with family and friends, traveling (eating in other cities), and hanging out with my pup.

CUESA: What is your favorite part about volunteering with CUESA?

Tinna: The community. I love meeting everyone at the Saturday market. It’s been a great learning experience as well!

CUESA: Do you have an insider market tip or a favorite produce item at the market right now?

Tinna: Go early! And load up on your vitamin C—citrus season is going strong!
