Meet one of the newest members of our team, Naomi Webb, who joined us in fall 2022 as a Foodwise Kids intern before being hired as the Foodwise Teens Education Coordinator in 2023.

Tell us a bit about you, your background, and what brought you to Foodwise?

I started in Foodwise Kids as an intern in my final semester at City College in 2022. I have a background in food service and decided to go back to school and get my culinary arts degree. As a requirement for my final semester I had to complete an internship. I am passionate about culinary education so Foodwise was a good fit.

What does your work at Foodwise look like in action?

I assist with both the Foodwise Kids and Foodwise Teens programs. I support the kids field trips to the market, leading the groups through the tour and tasting. I also create curriculum for the teens program, lead classes, and facilitate programming with the Youth Manager.

What inspires or motivates you about your work?

I love to be in a learning environment and all things food! I love to see the students try new things and discover foods they’ve never tasted before. Teaching students culinary skills that will serve them throughout their lives is a big motivation.

What’s something that you wish people understood better about Foodwise’s work?

Just how much work it really is! There are a lot of people working hard to make the farmers market operate as well as creating education opportunities for the communities we serve.

What do you do to recharge outside of work?

I like to explore the city, garden in my backyard, and hang out with my dog Oti.

Do you have any favorite farmers market tips you can share?

My tip is to come often! There are always new things coming into season, and the more often you shop, the less likely you are to buy more than you will actually eat.

What does “food wisdom” mean to you?

Food wisdom to me is the knowledge we all possess of what good food is. We know that the best food is grown locally, in healthy soil, and with love.

Anything else you want to share?

I would just encourage everyone to eat something new! Food is an amazing pathway for sharing experiences and connecting with the world!
