It’s 5 am and farmer Bill Crepps of Everything Under the Sun is loading his truck with the last boxes of citrus before driving 67 miles to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. A few hours later Freya Bernardo, a teacher at San Francisco’s Garfield Elementary School, helps her second-grade students onto the marketbound bus for the day’s Foodwise Kids field trip and cooking class. Office workers and local residents soon walk across the Embarcadero to join chefs, farmers, and food crafters in a vibrant market community.
Over the last 20 years, you have helped to build this dynamic community of eaters who are passionate about nourishing and delicious food, and who want to see local family farmers thrive.

As the director of CUESA for the past eight years, I’ve watched small-scale farms and food artisans build successful—and more sustainable—businesses, in part by joining our markets and having access to our support. I’ve seen countless students learn to love seasonal fruits and vegetables through our hands-on classes and tastings.
