In 2014 Dede started her own humane and regenerative ranch to do her part in combating the negative impacts of industrial animal agriculture and the meat industry.
Root Down Farm is a queer-owned pasture-based operation located in the coastal town of Pescadero, one hour south of San Francisco. In a valley between the Pacific and the redwoods, they rotationally raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, and pigs on 54 acres. Their mission is to humanely raise healthy animals, to use their natural behaviors to improve soil health and to respect the humans working the land while producing honest and delicious meat. All animals are fed Certified Organic non-GMO feed in addition to all the food they find in the pasture such as grass, bugs, seeds, roots, and more.
