Xan Devoss, the baker, and Mark, the organizer extraordinaire
Fox and Lion Bread Co. is a neighborhood bakery and cafe at 18th and Capp Streets in the Mission. They specialize in sourdough breads, pizza, and sandwiches. Xan Devoss bakes using organic ingredients and whole-milled grains, emphasizing the flavor of the grains and using a long fermentation process. Xan remains deeply committed to making handcrafted, nutrient-dense breads accessible. Fox and Lion honors the tradition of bread making as a way to nourish the community as well as the farmer and the miller.
Fox and Lion uses all organically grown flours, and sources from local farmers and millers. Fox and Lion Co. gets most of their grain from Early Bird Farm, near Placerville. The farmer, Drew Speroni, regeneratively farms and mills the grain.
