Fibershed Talk and Yarn Spinning Demo

Saturday, December 2, 2023, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

What do our clothes have to do with what we eat? Join us at the Foodwise Classroom for a special talk about the interrelationships between food and fiber in agriculture, with Fibershed founder Rebecca Burgess and Fibershed grazing specialist Sarah Keiser, plus a yarn spinning demo by local artisan, Gynna Clemes. All demos take place in the Foodwise Classroom at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public.

Rebecca Burgess has two decades of experience working at the intersection of ecology, fiber systems, and regional economic development. She is the author of the best-selling book Harvesting Color, a bioregional look into the natural dye traditions of North America, and Fibershed: Growing a Movement of Farmers, Fashion Activists, and Makers for a New Textile Economy. Sarah Keiser is an innovative community builder. Through her vision and leadership, she develops and implements community grazing cooperatives and collaborative land stewardship projects for more resilient communities. Passionate about creating beautiful and functional clothing and home goods, Gynna Clemes designs and creates each and every item in her home studio, using the best materials available.

Just in time for the holidays, Fibershed is hosting a series of holiday pop-ups at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on December 2, December 16, and December 23 to sell beautiful fiber goods and garments made by local producers within the Northern California Fibershed.
