Three Babes Bakeshop, featuring Happy Quail Farms
Saturday, May 26, 2018, 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and highlighting a market seller and a farmer.
Lenore Estrada and Anna Derivi-Castellanos are the partners behind Three Babes Bakeshop. They offer seasonal pies using local ingredients and are based in San Francisco’s Mission District. Their mission is to promote social, environment, and economic justice in the Central Valley. Three Babes have a strong commitment to creating positive change in their community by sourcing many of their ingredients from Central Valley farmers. Lenore and Anna join us at least once a year for a seasonal pie demo, and this year they will feature rhubarb from Happy Quail Farms.
David Winsberg became a full-time farmer shortly after he moved to the Bay Area in 1978. Happy Quail Farms (originally a hobby quail farm), located in East Palo Alto, has evolved into an “artisanal specialty urban micro-farm.” David has found his niche in specialty peppers and now produces over 30 varieties of sweet and hot peppers. He also grows crops outdoors, including South African gem squash, summer squash, and a few unusual products such as rhubarb and horseradish. Happy Quail Farms was the first farm to use a retractable roof crop protection system to enable early and late pepper production. They use an electric truck for most of their trips to market.
All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
