Suzanne Drexhage, Bartavelle, featuring Brokaw Ranch Company
Saturday, September 10, 2016, 10:30 am - 11:15 am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. This demo will highlight a farmer-chef connection forged at the market, featuring Brokaw Ranch Company.
Suzanne Drexhage is the proprietor of Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Bar, which she runs with her son, Sam Sobolewski. After years working front of house in restaurants around San Francisco and the East Bay (including the Café at Chez Panisse), she spent another dozen years working for Kermit Lynch and cooking on the side. Bartavelle is her first venture.
Hank and Ellen Brokaw started their ranching operation in 1967, specializing in intensively farmed avocado, specialty citrus, and subtropical tree-fruit production. The Brokaws endeavor to consistently produce plentiful crops of top-quality fruit while being good stewards of all resources: soil, water, and people. They try to avoid using synthetic chemicals for pest control but do use them when organic control methods are not effective. They also use a combination of synthetic and natural products for soil fertility. And now their son Will manages all farmers market and direct restaurant sales. Their 200-acre ranches, Santa Paula and Soledad, are 375 and 125 miles respectively to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.
All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
