Sandy Sonnenfelt, The Pasta Shop
Saturday, September 3, 2016, 10:30 am - 11:15 am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. This demo will highlight an artisan producer who sells in our market.
Sandy Sonnenfelt is the Prepared Foods & Pasta Program Director for Market Hall Foods and its flagship store, The Pasta Shop. She works closely with Executive Chef Scott Miller and the Pasta Shop kitchen team to present innovative products and menus that reflect a respect for tradition and the pizzazz lent by the talents of the kitchen crew. Sandy develops recipes for the wholesale fresh-pasta division and is responsible for the quality control of that department. She also creates the weekly prepared food menus focusing on different cultures, countries, or holiday themes.
Since settling in the Bay Area in the mid-eighties and at Market Hall Foods since 1994, Sandy has been involved in the creation and retailing of prepared foods. South African born, Sandy’s interest in food was sparked by Elizabeth David’s books and a five year stint growing melons and peppers for export to Europe. She and her family lived on kibbutz in Israel, where she worked in the almond, avocado and persimmon orchards, as well as the kibbutz kitchen.
Sandy is a trained olive oil taster and is a longtime member of California Olive Oil Council taste panel. For many years she was a judge at the LA International Olive Oil Competition and judges in many of the local olive oil competitions. She is a frequent presenter at olive oil educational seminars.
All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
