Monica Bhagwan, Leah's Pantry

Saturday, March 25, 2017, 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

Monica Bhagwan has been Leah’s Pantry Program Manager since 2013. Monica, who is from New York City, has 17 years of experience as a professional cook and community food and nutrition educator in New York City, Boulder (Colorado), and San Francisco.  After graduating from Vassar College, she began pursuing her passion for food by becoming a professional cook. She went on to earn a Masters Degree in Food Studies from New York University with special focus on food justice and sustainability. While at NYU, Monica served as an adjunct instructor and had incredible opportunity to work and study with noted nutritionist and food policy scholar and author, Dr. Marion Nestle. Prior to joining the Leah’s Pantry staff, Monica served as the lead educator and program director for the Edible Schoolyard Program in Hunters Point at the Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club. In her 4 years at the Edible Schoolyard, she used garden-based food and nutrition education as a vehicle for building healthy community within one of San Francisco’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods.  As part of the Leah’s Pantry team, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to deepen her work and help San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents improve their well-being through a stronger connection to food.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
