Michaela Rahorst, Del Popolo, featuring Fifth Crow Farm

Saturday, June 15, 2019, 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, and highlighting a chef-farmer relationship forged at the market.

It’s a typical story: a midwest farm girl transplanted to San Francisco quickly falls in love with the endless bounty of the food scene and changes her life’s work to follow a dream. Michaela Rahorst never imagined making a career in the kitchen, but day one of culinary school proved she was making the right decision. After school, Michaela luckily found herself in the kitchens of the greatest greats-Daniel Humm, Christopher Kostow and Melissa Perello. She took her time developing the roles that would help launch her path. It was during her time at Frances that Michaela stepped into her own and identified a very personal and comfortable style of cooking, and now she has made her home at Del Popolo, cooking her food alongside Jon Darsky’s pizza.

Graduates of the UC Santa Cruz’s Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) farm and garden program, John Vars, Mike Irving, and Teresa Kurtak founded Fifth Crow Farm on a shoestring budget in Pescadero in 2008. They pride themselves in values-driven farming based on economic viability, social justice, and ecologically sound practices. The young farmers offer a diverse array of certified organic leafy greens, root vegetables, dried beans, flowers, apples, and more.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
