Want to grow your own fruits, vegetables and flowers? CUESA is here to help. Help us celebrate gardening in your own backyard (or fire escape or windowsill).
South Driveway:
10:00 am – 12:00 pm Visit CUESA’s grow-your-own display with information on Bay Area gardening from local experts.
Maria Finn, proprietor of Prospect & Refuge will be on hand to answer Bay Area specific gardening questions. Maria will also bring pots, seeds and soil for a fun kids gardening project! Visit our display featuring plant starts from Flatland Flower Farm. Dan Lehrer, Flatland’s Growing Master will have Greens, Beans, Peppers, Tomatoes and more to jump start you summer your garden!
Also visit the Schoolyard to Market tent where students from Life Learning Academy (a charter high school) will be selling plant starts.
In the CUESA Kitchen, on the north side of the building:
11:00 am Janet Brown of Allstar Organics will talk about how she takes herbs and flowers from her garden and makes them into delicious salts, sugars and dried herb mixtures. Janet will bring beautiful roses from her garden to explain how she gets from fresh picked rose to rose petal sugar (which everyone in the audience will get to try!).
11:45 am Cooking demo by Ani Phyo, Author of many raw foods cookbooks inlcuding her most recent, Ani’s Raw Food Asia. Ani grew up eating raw food from her mother’s garden and has made an art out of preparing amazing raw food meals. For this demo she will make her raw foods version of Mushroom Bul Go Gi Lettuce Wraps with Gochujang (a traditional Korean condiment). Book signing to follow.
