David Murphy, Ugly Pickle Co.

Saturday, January 11, 2020, 10:30 am - 11:15 am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

David Murphy, a talented chef with over 17 years of experience in the industry, was most recently at the helm of Whitechapel, an award-winning gin bar with remarkable food. David, previously of James Beard Award winning Uchi in Austin, and the Michelin starred Madera, has worked all over the United States, including stints in New York, Pittsburgh, Oahu, and his native Austin. He has done several pop-up dinner series and is known for his playful, inspired approach to cuisine.

Together with his partner, Kayla Abe, David co-founded Ugly Pickle Co. in 2019, which upcycles cosmetically irregular produce and farm surplus to make snappy, fresh pickles and tasty spreads. Hearing about the crippling effects of food waste firsthand from farmer friends, David and Kayla felt impassioned to help mend these broken links in our food system. Ugly Pickle Co. is their vision for a viable future of food in which eaters can support farmers, reduce food waste, and end climate change.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
