Cooperatives: Democratizing the Food System

They value equal participation. They provide ownership opportunities and reduce business risks. They advance equity and build community. In a fragmented, individualistic, and sometimes disillusioning society, cooperatives offer hope. Panelists involved with food and farming cooperatives will discuss their personal experiences with the cooperative model and its potential for building a just and healthy food system.


The discussion will be followed by a reception with farmers market snacks and an opportunity to meet the speakers. The book Other Avenues Are Possible, which tells the story of rise and fall of the San Francisco People’s Food System of the 1970s, will be available for purchase.
