Cameron Stauch, author, Vegetarian Vietnam

Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10:30 am - 11:15 am

Stop by the CUESA Classroom for a cooking demo featuring the seasonal bounty of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, followed by a meet-and-greet book signing at Book Passage.

Chef Cameron Stauch has had the fortunate opportunity of eating and
working in kitchens throughout Asia and North America. His travels allow him to
research a variety of regional cuisines and to acquire knowledge about local
ingredients, dishes, and cooking techniques. Cameron’s culinary experiences have
strongly influenced his cooking style, of bringing world flavors to the table. These
experiences have reinforced to him that in many parts of the world some of the best
cooks are not found in professional kitchens. With deep curiosity he searches and
works with traditional home cooks to develop a mutual understanding and
tutorship in their respective cuisines.

Cameron currently lives in Bankgok, Thailand but previously he lived in
Hanoi, Vietnam and extensively travelled throughout the country as he researched
his first cookbook, Vegetarian Việt Nam (WW Norton Books). Cameron learned
about a tradition of vegetarian Vietnamese cuisine that is light and full of flavor.
Based on recipes devised over centuries by Mahayana Buddhist monks and home
cooks, the dishes in Vegetarian Việt Nam make use of the full arsenal of Vietnamese
herbs and sauces to make tofu, mushrooms and vegetables burst like never before.

Cameron is thrilled to help you recognize the mushrooms, herbs, noodles,
fruits, and vegetables that make up the vegetarian Vietnamese pantry via his
flavorful and healthy recipes.

All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
