A Baking Tribute to Flo Braker, Bakers Dozen

Professional baker and Bakers Dozen board member Rose Gillen will be representing the organization in a tribute to the famous baker Flo Braker.
The Bakers Dozen is a group that’s passionate about baking. Members include professionals, home bakers, and just about anyone who loves baking or wants to get started. The Bakers Dozen shares its collective knowledge and experience through educational and networking events and the Bakers Dozen donates a portion of its revenues to food-related charities.
The Bakers Dozen was founded in California in 1989 by the late cookbook author and teacher, Marion Cunningham, and former bakery owner, the late Amy Pressman. Along with Marion and Amy, Flo Braker was a driving force behind the Bakers Dozen from its inception. In addition to serving as president, Flo was the guiding spirit behind the original San Francisco group.
Rose Gillen started baking at the age of six with an avocado-green Betty Crocker Easy Bake Oven. Today, Rose is a classically-trained professional baker based in San Francisco. She studied at the world-famous Ecole Lenotre in Paris and at the CIA Greystone. She combines the tradition of French baking with a contemporary American spin. Growing up on a farm in the midwest, she knows that only the finest, freshest natural ingredients make spectacular desserts. Rose bakes with the best materials the Bay Area has to offer. The recipe she is working from today is one of Flo Braker’s originals and honors Flo’s wonderful and enduring baking spirit.
All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
