Market Ambassador: Markus Hartmann

We are very excited to announce our newest customer service initiative: the CUESA Market Ambassador program. Based out of the Info Kiosk in the back plaza, the Market Ambassador is like a roving concierge, available to answer your questions about where sellers are located, what’s in the market, parking, programs, culinary tips, and more!

On Saturday, October 19, our Market Ambassador is CUESA Board Member Markus Hartmann. Markus is district manager for Bon Appétit Management Company, a sustainable food service company that provides café and catering services to corporations, colleges, and universities. Markus will be in the back plaza from 9:30 to 11:30 am to answer your farmers market and bread questions. Meet Markus.

CUESA: What projects have you been working on at CUESA?
Markus: April 2011. I am the Chair of the Fundraising and Events Committee, so I have been involved with some of the events and, of course, generating money.

CUESA: What made you want to join the CUESA board?
Markus: I have been a customer (professionally and personally) since 1999. I remember shopping at Green Street and always wanted to be involved in the market, and I am glad that I have the opportunity to contribute the this great cause.

CUESA: Where does your interest in food come from?
Markus: I am a chef by trade (apprentice in Germany) and work for Bon Appétit Management Company. I work with food every day but still cook when I get home.

CUESA: What do you do when you aren’t conducting CUESA board business?
Markus: Professionally involved at AT&T Park, Exploratorium, Twitter, LinkedIn, and the Presidio. I have a beautiful wife (we eat all the time), three young kids, and one demanding dog. I ride my motorcycle whenever I can

CUESA: What is your favorite part about being on the CUESA board?
Markus: All the people at CUESA. The staff and the board is a very diverse group, which makes it fun. They also have a wide range of opinions. Working with these different people through the various issues ensures the best outcome for CUESA and the market.

CUESA: Do you have an insider market tip or a favorite produce item at the market right now?
Markus: Apple juice from Hidden Star Orchards, honey from Marshall Farm Natural Honey, and strawberries from Yerena Farms.
